Music, Music, Music!Choir
Our choir enhances our Sunday worship services September through May. Directed by the accomplished Charles Brown, Jr., their repertoire extends from Bach and other classical composers to modern and contemporary pieces, sometimes highlighting Charlie's own compositions. New singers are always welcome. Jazz Vespers
In an effort to create a meaningful online worship experience during the pandemic, Nativity's "Jazz Vespers" was born. Featuring the voices of local favorite Kim Murphy and our musician Charlie Brown on Jazz standards, spiritual hymns, and a newly composed Evening Prayer liturgy, this service brought a new dimension to our worship life and we look forward to bringing it to the community in post-pandemic times. |
Charlie's Barroom Messiah
"Charlie's Barroom Messiah" has become a holiday favorite in Portland and Rockland and most recently in Freeport. For three Saturday afternoons in December, Charlie conducts a sing-along of Part 1 (containing the Christmas story) of Handel’s “Messiah” in a bar or club in each of the three cities. He hires local musicians and professional soloists and invites the community to participate in the chorus. Barroom Messiah has been a successful attempt to take Handel’s oratorio out of the church or concert hall and perform it in a comfortable public house setting and reach a new audience. |
