The ELCA & New England Synod
Nativity is one of 8,900 congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America across the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. We are the church that shares a living, daring confidence in God’s grace. For us as the ELCA, this faith comes through the good news of Jesus Christ and gives us the freedom and the courage to wonder, discover, and boldly participate in what God is up to in the world.
We are a church that believes God is calling us into the world — together. The ELCA is made up of 65 synods grouped into nine regions, which are points of connection for them and the church-wide organization. Synods unite the work of congregations within their areas, serve as regional support, and guide pastoral and other staff candidates. Nativity is a member of the New England Synod.

The New England Synod of the ELCA is made up of 175 congregations in the six New England states plus two in upstate New York. Together we are a people passionately committed to rolling up our sleeves and engaging with the vast needs of our times, as well as the complex questions that surround us. Lutherans are people of grace, God's grace. When we are at our best, we embody that grace in our words and our actions. At the same time, we make no pretense of being a perfect people. Instead we consider ourselves, "sinners anonymous," people who are deeply hungry for God in Christ in our lives and our world.
